Glaconite (eng. Glauconite (glaucony)) is a complex potassium-containing hydrous aluminosilicate, a mineral from the hydromica group of the phyllosilicate subgroup, whose composition is variable and complex, consisting of The average formula (K, Na, Ca) represents × (Fe3+, Mg, Fe2+, Al) 2 [(Al, Si)Si3O10](OH)2×H2O.
As a separate mineral species, Kerferstein's work has been known since 1828, giving it its name (from the Greek glaukos - blue-green). Potassium-based varieties are called celadon. This is glauconite with a concentration of up to 98% obtained by magnetic separation from glauconite-containing sand. It has a disordered loose powdery structure mostly around 100 microns (flour).
