Phosphoric acid, also known as orthophosphoric acid or phosphoric acid (V), is a weak acid with the chemical formula H3PO4. It usually occurs in water as a colorless, 85% concentrated syrup. The pure compound is a colorless solid. Phosphoric acid is commonly found in chemistry laboratories as an 85% aqueous solution. It is a colorless, odorless, non-volatile, syrupy liquid. Although phosphoric acid does not meet the strict definition of a strong acid, an 85% solution can still severely irritate skin and damage eyes.

Store 85% solution above 21°C, 81.5% solution above 7°C, 80% solution above 4°C, and 75% solution above –20°C to prevent crystallization. Keep container tightly closed. Keep away from direct sunlight, alkalis, sulfides, cyanides and metal powders. Store in an anti-corrosion and ventilated place. Store soda ash or lime for emergency use.
