Solid hexagonal boron nitride ceramic

At UNIPRETEC, we produce several advanced ceramic parts using fine engineered ceramics, one of which is Hexagonal Boron Nitride. We usually choose a form called hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN). Hexagonal boron nitride is a composite material of boron and nitrogen that is heat and chemical resistant. It is the strongest boron nitride crystal type along with graphite. Since it has the same composition as graphite, you may even hear it referred to as "white graphite" because of its white color. Moreover, the hardness of hexagonal boron nitride is similar to that of graphite, so it is easy to machine the part into the desired shape, there is only a small tip, and the machining work should be carried out in dry conditions without coolant. In addition, visible dust is generated during processing, so masks and goggles need to be worn.

Boron nitride ceramics chemically have good thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion, and microwave transparency. Boron nitride can also be processed quickly. In addition, glass, salt, and other liquid metals are non-wetting. This ensures that none of the compounds get wet and are more resistant to chemical attack.

Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) performs extremely well at high heat, being effective in air up to 900 degrees Celsius, in vacuum at 1,900 degrees Celsius, and in an inert environment at 2,000 degrees Celsius. BN is self-lubricating and therefore does not require the use of gas or water molecules stuck in its layers. Because of this, boron nitride (BN) works perfectly in the vacuum that is important for aerospace applications.
